Pick a THEME COLOUR and sprinkle that colour throughout your home with subtlety.

This can be done by choosing DIFFERENT SHADES of that colour.  For example, when using a colour to decorate- such as purple, make sure to select different shades of that colour; light purples, medium purples, deep purples, lilac, eggplant etc….  By doing so, you add depth and interest to the colour without overwhelming your buyers eyes.  It’ll also give a sense of flow and fluidity to anyone who walks through your space. 

Using the same colour scheme throughout a small space can be very beneficial, especially if your home needs to show openness and spaciousness.  The last thing we want, is for any space to show small and choppy.  The impression is to show your space like one big open area -with function and character at each corner- all interrelated.

With so many colours, tones, and shades to choose from, it’s no wonder we have trouble narrowing down to just a few- enough to cover a condo space.
If you don’t have a strong desire towards any particular colour or shade, below is an example of a colour combination that work well together. This color scheme will help open and liven any small space. Like a breath of fresh air, these colours are soft and light, and with the right amount of brightness and depth that will give your condo a clean and modern make over.

Growing up, I had many fears of using outhouses: fear of falling in, fear of being trapped inside, fear of someone/ something hiding down inside, fear of mid exposure -the structure falling apart while I’m inside, fear of death from holding my breath… Eventhough I survived unscathed, I still dislike.

This past weekend, at the BC Home and Garden Show, I saw heaven on earth. An “outhouse heaven” to be exact, and I was immediately mesmerized (see attached photos). I must have stood fixed in front of these beautiful outhouse displays for hours… I was genuinely captivated.
Yes, there is still hope.

The idea of painting doors with bold, bright, or contrasting colours never appealed to me, that is until I walked through the cities of India and encountered these (See Photos).

Amongst other things, India’s usage of unconventional choices of colours and brightness on doors caught my attention at first glance, and I immediately took out my camera. It’s a surprising design decision, but I fell in love with the idea instantly – as the doors create interesting focal points for the houses.

I think this eye-catching look could work well with lots of different style homes, and can be most interesting in both interior and exterior spaces. Doors are like faces, but of homes and of rooms. They give the houses a personality without being entered. And depending on the chosen colours and shades, houses can speak through their doors.
